Why Integra: Engineering That Earns Its Keep

Every decision we make — from the steel we source to the way we seal our fabrics — is engineered to outlast, outperform, and out-protect every other automatic pool cover on the market.

Four Pillars. One Standard: Yours.

Integra automatic pool covers are built around four engineering pillars — stainless steel construction, ASTM F1346 certification, Aegis premium fabrics, and effortless daily operation.

Stainless steel mechanism

All-Stainless Steel Mechanisms

While competitors cut costs with aluminum or mixed-metal components, every Integra mechanism is built entirely from stainless steel. That's why we back every mechanism with a 20-year limited warranty.

Built to ASTM F1346 — The Safety Standard That Matters

ASTM F1346 requires the cover to support 485+ pounds of static load, eliminate gaps large enough for a child to access the water, and drain surface water safely. Every Integra cover passes every test, every time.

ASTM certification
Aegis fabric

Aegis Premium Fabrics

Aegis is our proprietary line of 18-oz vinyl pool cover fabrics, acrylic-coated and UV-stabilized. Unlike stitched webbing, Aegis fabrics use heat-sealed webbing for a stronger, watertight bond. Seven colors. Seven-year fabric warranty.

One Switch. Complete Control.

Integra covers operate with a single keypad or rocker switch — PIN-secured, weatherproof, and designed for daily use. Open the pool for a swim, close it when you're done.

Certified to ASTM F1346 — The Pool Safety Standard That Matters

Not all automatic pool covers carry ASTM certification. Here's what the standard actually tests — and why every Integra cover passes.

What Is ASTM F1346?

ASTM F1346 is the American Society for Testing and Materials standard specifically for automatic pool covers used as safety barriers. It evaluates structural strength, perimeter security, and surface water management.

Every Integra automatic pool cover is designed, built, and tested to meet all three requirements.

Integra covers are engineered to support well over 485 pounds — enough to prevent a child, pet, or adult from breaking through to the water below.

Perimeter Security: No Gap Access to Water

Integra's track system maintains consistent contact between the cover edge and the pool coping, creating a continuous perimeter seal.

Surface Drainage: No Hazardous Water Ponding

Integra covers are designed with controlled drainage characteristics that allow rainwater to shed safely without pooling.

Automatic Pool Cover Energy Savings: The Real Numbers

Evaporation is the single largest source of pool energy loss. An Integra cover eliminates it.

Why Pool Covers Save More Than You Think

The U.S. Department of Energy reports that evaporation accounts for 70% of total pool energy loss. An automatic pool cover is the single most effective way to reduce that loss.

Evaporation: The Biggest Energy Thief

An uncovered pool can lose up to an inch of water per week to evaporation. An Integra cover eliminates 90% of evaporative loss.

Heating: 50-70% Cost Reduction

Pool owners who heat their pools typically see a 50-70% reduction in heating costs after installing an Integra cover.

Chemicals & Maintenance: Less of Everything

An Integra cover reduces chemical consumption by 35-60%. Most pool owners report spending half the time on maintenance.

ASTM F1346 Explained

/resources/astm-f1346-explained/

ASTM F1346: The Pool Safety Cover Standard, Explained in Plain Language

What the standard actually requires, how covers get certified, and what it means for your family's safety.

What Is ASTM F1346?

ASTM F1346 defines the minimum safety requirements for pool covers: static load strength (485+ lbs), perimeter gap limits, surface drainage, and permanent labeling.

Bear on cover

Understanding the Standard Behind Every Safety Cover

ASTM International develops standards through committees of industry experts. F1346 applies to all types of pool covers — mesh, solid, and automatic.

Strength test

Test 1: Static Load — 485 Pounds Minimum

The cover must support a concentrated static load of at least 485 pounds without allowing the weight to contact the water surface.

Why it matters: A cover that can't hold weight isn't a safety barrier — it's a hazard.

Test 2: Perimeter Gap — No Child-Sized Opening

No gap along the entire perimeter can be large enough for a small child to slip through. Integra's track-guided system creates a continuous seal with no gaps.

Perimeter test
Drainage test

Test 3: Surface Drainage — No Dangerous Ponding

Rainwater must drain off the cover surface and not accumulate in dangerous pools.

Test 4: Permanent Labeling — Verifiable Compliance

Every compliant cover must carry a permanent, non-removable label with the manufacturer's name, model, year, and ASTM F1346 statement.

Low Offset Mechanism — 16-Inch Offset for Pools Up to 20x50

When deck space is limited, the Low Offset system delivers the same stainless steel engineering in a compact footprint.

LO Hero

Designed for Pools Where Space Is the Constraint

The Low Offset Mechanism requires only 16 inches of offset from the pool edge. It handles pools up to 20 feet wide and 50 feet long with the same stainless steel construction, ASTM F1346 certification, and 20-year warranty.

Same Engineering, Smaller Footprint

The Low Offset uses the same stainless steel components, rope reel design, adjustable torque limiter, and aluminum track system as the Standard. The choice is purely a matter of available space and pool dimensions.

Built Different From Day One

Integra was founded on a simple premise: automatic pool covers should be built to last — not built to a price point.

Quality Over Quantity

We don't outsource manufacturing. We don't use aluminum where stainless steel belongs. We don't stitch webbing when heat-sealing is stronger.

Automatic Pool Cover FAQ — Your Questions Answered

30+ answers to the questions homeowners and pool builders ask most.

Safety & Certification Product Specs Installation Maintenance Cost & Warranty Dealer Questions

Safety & Certification

Are Integra covers ASTM certified?
Yes. Every Integra automatic pool cover is independently tested and certified to meet or exceed ASTM F1346-91.
What does ASTM F1346 actually require?
Three critical tests: static load (485 lbs), perimeter gap requirements, and drainage requirements preventing standing water.
Can an automatic pool cover replace a pool fence?
In many jurisdictions, yes. An ASTM F1346-certified cover qualifies as an approved safety barrier under most building codes.
How much weight can the cover hold?
Integra covers support 485 lbs in a static load test — enough for two adults and one child.
Is the cover safe for pets?
Yes. The cover prevents accidental entry for both children and pets.
What happens if someone walks on the cover?
A properly installed cover will support an adult's weight, but covers are safety devices — not walking surfaces.

Product Specs

What material is the cover fabric?
Aegis fabric — 18-oz woven vinyl with an acrylic topcoat, UV-stabilized and chemical-resistant.
What are the mechanisms made of?
100% stainless steel. Every guide rail, pulley, and structural component.
What colors are available?
Seven: Charcoal, Light Gray, Tan, Mocha, Royal Blue, Navy Blue, and Black.
What mechanism types are available?
Standard mechanism (top-track) and Low-Offset mechanism (recessed). Both all-stainless steel with 20-year warranty.

Installation

Can an automatic cover be installed on an existing pool?
Yes. The Standard mechanism is designed for retrofit installation.
How long does installation take?
A typical residential installation takes 1-2 days.
Who installs the cover?
All Integra covers are installed by authorized, trained dealers.

Cost & Warranty

How much does an automatic pool cover cost?
A typical residential installation ranges from $10,000 to $18,000.
How much will I save on heating?
Homeowners typically save 50-70% on pool heating costs.
What's the payback period?
Most homeowners see a full return on investment in 5-8 years.
What does the warranty cover?
20-year warranty on mechanisms, 7-year warranty on Aegis fabric.
